Finding project managers in security technology

The short answer

A project manager in security technology may work on access control, camera systems or fire alarm installations. Define the scope of work clearly and test which experience matches your projects.

What makes this role hard to fill

A project manager in security technology combines technical knowledge with coordination. He oversees an installation from specification through to handover, liaises with clients and subcontractors, keeps the schedule on track, and resolves technical complications as they arise. That profile exists – but it rarely maps neatly onto a single qualification or job title. One candidate comes from electrical engineering; another has spent years working as an installer and progressed from there. A third has a background in security but limited formal project experience.

Job boards reach mainly people who have already decided to leave. That is a small group. Someone who has worked for the same employer for ten years and is content will not open a job site. He does scroll through his feed – but you need to reach him before he starts looking, not after.

Social recruitment works differently here. You appear in the feed of people who are not actively looking but are open to a better move. The content determines whether someone stops scrolling. Not a job description listing requirements, but something concrete about the work: the type of projects, the degree of autonomy, how collaboration is arranged internally. That draws in the right people and lets the rest scroll on.

Channel strategy trade-offs

For this role it pays to think about where potential candidates spend most of their time. Someone who works on-site every day has different media habits than an office professional. Visual content outperforms a list of fifteen requirements: a behind-the-scenes look at a live project, a short clip showing what the role actually involves day to day.

Imagine a company that provides security installations for logistics centres looking for a project manager. The content that works is not the vacancy text, but a picture of what the handover of such an installation actually involves: coordination with the building manager, integration of subsystems, the technical checks on the day itself. That gives candidates a real feel for the work – and for whether it appeals to them.

Step by step

1. Define the role profile concretely.
Which experience is essential, and which is a bonus? A project manager with experience in camera systems and one with a background in access control are both candidates, but they are not interchangeable. The sharper the profile, the more focused the qualification process.

2. Deploy social recruitment for passive reach.
Aim the campaign at people with relevant work experience, not at people visiting a job site. The content is not the vacancy – it is a picture of the work.

3. Let the AI recruiter handle the first conversations.
Red Rocket's AI recruiter holds conversations via WhatsApp – outside office hours as well, including moments when someone is slow to reply. It follows up based on organisational context and qualifies candidates against the agreed role criteria: project experience, technical background, willingness to travel, or whatever is relevant to your situation.

4. Review the dossier in the Cockpit.
You receive the conversation, the candidate profile, a CV if available, a score, and suggested follow-up questions. Based on that, you decide who to invite.

5. Conduct the follow-up conversation yourself.
The technical and project depth – how someone works, cultural fit – no one else can assess that for you.

Frequently asked questions

Does a security technology project manager always need to be certified?

Certification requirements depend on the type of work and the sector. Verify the requirements for your specific assignments through your industry association and include relevant criteria in your qualification process. This article does not constitute legal or regulatory advice.

Can I also reach candidates who are already employed?

Yes. Social recruitment targets precisely this segment. People who are not actively looking are almost unreachable via job boards – but they do exist.

What if a candidate has no formal project manager title but does have the experience?

This is common in security technology. Set the qualification criteria against what someone has actually done, not just what they called their role. The AI recruiter probes on the substance of the work. --- Want to know how the qualification conversations via WhatsApp work, or how to weigh up social recruitment against an agency?
